captain : That's dissapointing. I haven't played (m)any classic-remakes so I wasn't aware it was that bad. I guess you're always going to have the people who complain about bad gameplay and if you make it more current, you'll have people who moan about how it's nothing like the classic. Some people prefer that kind of gameplay, it's more nostalgic.
An argument that i have missed in these discussions, is that of gameplay.
I bought 'Mega Man Maverick Hunter' - and hated it. Not because it was 2D, but because the gameplay sucked: No double-jump (that wasn‘t invented when this game was originally created), no auto-fire (i really got tired of constantly pressing fire - even when i configuered it to the two shoulder buttons). no sliding (i remember this being possible in some other Mega Man game).
I‘m not going to continue going off on MM - i‘m just trying to show, that it is not just the grafics that have changed over the years.
Take the old original 'Jak & Daxter' - what a great game. Not because it‘s 3D, but because the controls are smooth as butter, the colorschemes are bright & full of life, the jump-and-run feel was just a lot more fullfilling than any 'Super Mario' game i have ever played.
So what am i trying to say with this blog? Maybe it‘s this: Next time they bring out an old classic for the PSP - let‘s just say the NES 'Castlevania' - i will be reading forum-talks that run: 'This game is no good - it's 2D', when i'd like to be reading comments that run: 'This game is no good. I remember that the button reaction was real slow, and after jumping Belmont, he would drop like a sack of wet flour'.
