From the day Sony announced the PS3 I knew I was buying one. I had played many games for XBox but I had not been interested enough to purchase one, and that bias transferred to the 360. I have always enjoyed the variety of games available for the PS2. Much of my conviction to purchase a PS3 is based on my love for the PS2. Sony have touted the PS3 as being THE be-all-end-all, revolutionary, uber-capable next generation console from day one. And millions of people have implicitly trusted their implications that the next generation does indeed start with the PS3.
A year and ahalf ago Sony introduced mind-blowing target videos that they assured their fans would be at least very close to the final products. Naysayers (most of which are MS fanboys) have since propagated Sony brass as liars and just as many (Sony fanboys and casual gamers alike) have taken offense at said allegations, hoping for the best video game experience ever. Then came E3 '06. Many of us expected Sony to have a dominant and satisfying presentation on the show floor. For many of us it wasn't. So we waited for TGS. TGS is all but over and Sony has again disappointed many of us who believed that this was going to be an extravagant display of all the reasons the PS3 is going to be the greatest console ever launched. And thats where I have the biggest problem.
I have searched and searched and I cannot find any definitive reason to purchase one this year. I am looking for the best video game experience and Sony have not convinced me that the PS3 indeed offers that. At this point I feel that the PS3 is over-promised and under-delivered. Maybe in a couple of years there will be distinct difference. But for now, none of the software or fuctionalities merit the $600 pricetag I was so desperately seeking to justify. I wish Sony the best, but this vear I will be having my next-gen experience with a more established, more affordable console. Maybe they can change my mind before they launch. I sincerely hope so. Many of us just want to believe. Are we being unfair?
